Hiking for Water, Stopped Deadlifting and Better Squatting

This episode I take a deper dive into water. It was a big topic recently when discussing with patients in the clinic and wanted to make sure to bring it up again here. Some of these things I forget to mention to people because they have become so engrained in my everyday.

-Drink from glass or stainless steel. No plastic!

-Add minerals or electrolytes. My favorites are Celtic Sea Salt, Baja Gold and Paleo Valley Essential Electrolytes.

-As an added benefit you can go to Find A Spring to find local structured water. Just like you hear about buying local food, local water is equally important and beneficial. Some places you can also get a hike in with it to get some extra time in Mother Nature!

Why I stopped deadlifting…yeah even this surprised me. However, I’m okay with it. I still complete my bend/hinge pattern regularly with sandbags and kettlebell swings. This gets me plenty of the movement and don’t have to worry about the increased time and recovery that it takes to complete heavy deadlifts.

Melatonin as a supplement isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. The best way to sum this up is from Jack Kruse: “if your body can make it, you shouldn’t take it.”

“The day you stop jumping is the day you start dying.” Not sure who said it, but listen to it and make it part of your life.

My squatting challenges have continued. This has been a good lesson though and teaches me that there are always things to work on. Don’t forget that even “movement experts” still have things that they need to address. The biggest thing is realizing that you have to work on them and then put the time and effort in.

“Can’t grow you calves.” Well we all know that’s not true. Put in the time and work and they’ll grow just like anything else. If you want them, they will come.
